On January 22, 1973 the United States Supreme Court handed down a seven to two decision which declared that, “A fetus is not a person under the Constitution and thus has no legal right to life.” Today marks the fortieth anniversary of that shameful decision by the Court. Since that day fifty-five million infants have been exterminated. There are certain humane laws protecting animals from cruelty, but a live human fetus, regardless of its age, has no rights whatever in the United States of America. Some day, in God’s time, this will be considered a “crime against humanity” – on the same level as Hitler’s slaughter of six million Jews. Let us stand for a moment of silence, in memory of the fifty-five million who have died in the American Holocaust (silence). You may be seated. Mr. Griffith will come to sing “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.”

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;

Please stand and turn with me to I Timothy 4:1-2, which is our text this morning.

“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron” (I Timothy 4:1-2).

You may be seated.

Here the Apostle Paul warned of an increasing departure from the Christian faith “in the latter times.” He said that people would follow deceitful, seducing spirits and doctrines of demons. He said those who follow demon-inspired teachings would have their consciences seared, as with a hot iron. Their consciences would be cauterized so they would no longer feel guilty when they sinned.

Dr. R. C. H. Lenski said that this speaks of “doctrines that emanate from demons...Satan is the father of lies, deception is his great work. His tools are his victims. We need not puzzle our minds about the occult activities of demons; the antichristian doctrines betray their origin all too plainly...The demons have seared their conscience... The translation of the A.V. [KJV] is correct, ‘seared with a hot iron,’ the conscience has been cauterized so that it has lost all sensitiveness and fails to respond...These deceivers and hypocritical liars are beyond all deterrents of conscience...What they do is to perpetrate demon doctrines of deceit and lies while their own conscience is rendered incapable of feeling even a misgiving” (R. C. H. Lenski, Th.D., The Interpretation of St. Paul’s Epistles to the Colossians, to the Thessalonians, to Timothy, to Titus and to Philemon, Augsburg Publishing House, 1964 edition, pp. 619, 621).

The most diabolical doctrine of our time is the demonic belief that a woman has the “right” to kill a baby. The very thought of it still shocks me to the core. When I was a young person everyone considered an abortion to be a monstrous crime. We thought that because we were still influenced by centuries of Christianity.

There can be no doubt that the Christian faith has always been against abortion. The following quotations are from very early Christian leaders, taken from A Dictionary of Early Christian Beliefs (David W. Bercot, J.D., Hendrickson Publishers, 1998).

The Epistle of Barnabas (c. 70 A.D.), “You shall not kill the child by obtaining an abortion. Nor, again, shall you destroy him after he is born.”

The Didache (c. 80 A.D.), “You shall not murder a child by abortion nor kill one who has been born.”

Athenagoras (c. 175 A.D.), “We say that those women who use drugs to bring on abortion commit murder. And we also say they will have to give an account to God for the abortion.”

Tertullian (c. 197 A.D.), “Murder is once for all forbidden. Therefore, we may not destroy even the fetus in the womb.”

Tertullian (c. 197 A.D.), “Among surgeon’s tools there is a certain instrument that is formed with an adjustable frame for first of all opening the uterus and then keeping it open. It also has a circular blade, by means of which the limbs within the womb are dissected with careful, but unflinching care. Its last appendage is a blunted or covered hook, by which the entire fetus is extracted by a violent delivery. There is also a copper needle or spike, by which the actual death is brought about in this treacherous robbery of life. From its infanticide function, they give it the name, ‘killer of the infant’ – which infant, of course, had once been alive.”

The pagan Romans aborted their children by the thousands. Thousands of other babies were abandoned along roadsides, leaving them to die of exposure or be taken by someone to be raised as a slave or a prostitute.

And here is one for the “animal rights” people, from Clement of Alexandria (c. 195 A.D.), “Although keeping parrots and curlews [another kind of pet bird] the pagans do not adopt the orphan child. Rather, they expose [leave by a roadside] children who are born at home. Yet, they take up the young of birds. So they prefer irrational creatures to rational ones!” What a parallel to the modern pagans, who worship their dogs and kill their babies!

As you can see the early Christians thought of abortion as murder, and they considered it to be demonic in origin. As a result of the spread of Christianity, abortion was outlawed throughout the Western world. But in 1973 seven old men on the United States Supreme Court ruled that it was legal. Planned Parenthood quickly began to capitalize on this decision, making millions of dollars by proclaiming a woman’s so-called “right to choose.” Since 1973 over 55 million babies have been exterminated. Six million Jews were burned in the ovens of Hitler’s Holocaust. More than nine times that many have died at the hands of the Planned Parenthood butchers in the American Holocaust. This morning America is soaked in the blood of 55 million slaughtered infants.

Going back to the ancient Christian documents, The Apostolic Constitutions of 390 A.D. said, “You shall not slay your child by causing an abortion, nor kill the baby that is born. For everything that is shaped and has received a soul from God, if it is slain, shall be avenged, as being unjustly destroyed.” The Bible says,

“For blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it” (Numbers 35:33).

Since we have killed over nine times as many innocents, the United States of America is even more guilty of “crimes against humanity” than Hitler’s Germany. Dr. Noah Hutchings said, “If God punished Hitler and Germany for this crime, how much more will He punish or judge us?” (Forty Irrefutable Signs of the Last Generation, Bible Belt Publishers, 2012, p. 205).

Last Wednesday Obama held a news conference on gun violence. Obama said, “This is our first task as a society, keeping our children safe. This is how we will be judged” (Los Angeles Daily News, Thursday, January 17, 2013, p. A11). Those words seemed full of irony to me. Obama made that statement against the horrible background of the death of 20 students in Newtown, Connecticut. But on the day Obama spoke, 3,000 babies died at the hands of abortionists. With the death of three thousand children every day, Obama’s words took on an ominous tone, “This is our first task as a society, keeping our children safe. This is how we will be judged.” Indeed! This is how we will be judged!

The United States is already reeling under the judgments of God. Monster hurricanes batter the East Coast. Unnatural tornadoes tear through the heartland. The cornfields of the Midwest shrivel and die in the worst drought since the Dust Bowl of the 1930s. Iran prepares nuclear missiles to launch against us, while the President hides in the Oval Office smoking cigarettes, according to his medical report. The Republicans wring their hands and dither, while Harry Reid and the Democrats plan how to bankrupt this country forever. Millions of illegal aliens and illegal drugs wash across our borders, while our children pump violent video games through their brains, and plan to murder each other in ever-escalating violence. I have lived in America for nearly three quarters of a century. But I have never felt the hand of Satan and the work of demons as strongly as I do today.

They tell us that the violence will end if they just outlaw high-powered guns. Don’t you believe it – not for a minute! Senator Feinstein is a prime mover behind gun control. But did you know that she herself carries an automatic pistol? She wants to take away your guns – but she clings to hers like a fanatic! Why? Because she knows how wild and dangerous it is to live in America today.

Will there be a religious revival? No – there will not be a national revival. Why? Because the consciences of most Americans are “seared with a hot iron” (I Timothy 4:2). To have a revival, people must come under conviction of sin. When people’s consciences are seared, cauterized and burned out until they are insensitive to sin, then they will not come under conviction. They will sin more and more until the final judgment falls, as it did on Sodom and on the Roman Empire.

Psychologist Richard L. Ganz said,

       There is no doubt that some researchers are experimenting upon live aborted babies. Bizarre as it may seem, vivisection is being practiced on human fetuses while the same procedure on animals is widely condemned. Experiments varying from the removal of an organ, such as the liver, from a living fetus to connecting the decapitated head of a living fetus to a heart-lung machine to study the effect of chemicals on the brain are matters of medical report...
       Medical research has only begun to uncover the effects of abortion. However, when a society submits to brainwashing, when a society refuses to cry out against injustice, then the roots of the family and of civilization itself are in jeopardy...
       Abortion was illegal in Germany but was widely practiced after World War I. The Euthanasia Society sprang up shortly after that. Eventually the medical profession agreed to the extermination of the aged, the retarded, the infirm, the defective children, and so on. After Germany had raised no objection to the extermination of 273,000 patients under the euthanasia program it did not take much for Hitler to extend the killings to other categories of people...the horror of Auschwitz [where millions of Jews were gassed] started with abortion and euthanasia...We [in America] are at the top of the subtle, slippery slope that leads to Auschwitz. Never let it be said that it cannot happen here (Richard L. Ganz, Ph.D., Thou Shalt Not Kill, Arlington House, 1980, pp. 22-23).

Obama is already forcing everyone who pays income tax to pay for abortions through Planned Parenthood. Did you know that? If you pay income tax you are paying for abortions. You are forced to – like you were in a police state. Obama is already working to force religious hospitals to provide for abortions or lose their tax exemptions. We are already living in a nation whose news media is little more than a propaganda machine for the Democrats. I have been watching Presidential elections since 1964. But the attacks of the mainstream media on Mitt Romney were so vicious that it turned my stomach. They seemed to have learned this from Joseph Goebbels, the minister of propaganda in Nazi Germany. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not a Republican. I’m not a member of any political party. But the media attacks on Romney were sickening. We are already allowing people like Terri Schiavo to starve to death by a court order, enforced by the police, as it was in Florida. I thought author Gore Vidal was too extreme when he said that America is becoming a police state. Now I think he was right. He was extremely liberal, but he was right on that point. America is becoming a police state.

You and I live in the middle of this social breakdown. And I find that it is increasingly more difficult for young people to be converted. Forty years ago it was quite common to see droves of young people come to church and experience real conversions and real revival. I saw revival come to Asbury College in the late 1960s. I saw crowds of young people come night after night to hear Arthur Blessitt preach on the Sunset Strip. I saw hundreds of young people saved at the First Chinese Baptist Church – and I saw hundreds more converted in the San Francisco Bay Area a few months later.

But not today. Today it seems that their consciences are “seared with a hot iron” (I Timothy 4:2). Today it is quite rare for a young person to come under conviction of sin – and be pardoned by Jesus – and be cleansed by His Blood. Why is that so rare today? Because your generation has been deceived by “seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils...having their conscience seared with a hot iron” (I Timothy 4:1-2). When I talk about sin, young people today look at me wide-eyed, like they never heard of it. Sin? Isn’t that something people used to believe in long ago? The very concept of sin is foreign to them. But if you can’t feel guilty for your sin, it is impossible for you to become a Christian. Impossible! Utterly impossible! You will live and die like one of H. G. Wells’ “Morlocks” if you can’t feel guilty of sin. You can never become a real Christian. The first step in becoming a Christian is to feel guilty of sin.

If you are still “human” enough to feel guilty in your conscience for the sin of your heart and life – I plead with you to come to Jesus and be washed clean by His Blood – before your conscience is completely seared, like the rest of the American pagans in this demonic hour!
