IS AMERICA BECOMING A COURT-RUN POLICE STATE?

by Dr. R. L. Hymers, Jr.

A sermon preached on Lord's Day Morning, April 3, 2005
at the Baptist Tabernacle of Los Angeles

"Thou shalt not kill" (Exodus 20:13).

What's so hard to understand about those words in the sixth commandment? It seems pretty simple to me - "Thou shalt not kill." End of statement! But your parents' generation think it's complicated. They think it's OK to kill if you need to, or if you want to.

They have closed their eyes while 46 million babies were torn to shreds. They don't even blink when we talk about the Abortion Holocaust. Forty-six million young people, of your age group, were slaughtered, while your parents' generation watched TV and drank beer. They could care less. It makes me feel like throwing up!

And now we have Terri Schiavo starved to death, denied a drop of cool water on her parched lips. She died last Friday, by court order, in the United States of America! God help us! My wife said, "I wouldn't let a dog die like that."

But most of your parents' generation could care less. After all, the courts threw her case out, didn't they? You bet they did - the same way those same courts threw 46 million kids from your generation into a trash can behind an abortion clinic. They could care less that God Almighty said,

"Thou shalt not kill" (Exodus 20:13).

That's a "moral absolute" - and your parents' generation could care less about "moral absolutes." All they care about is making money, going to Las Vegas and watching junk TV while they guzzle beer. I say that most people in your parents' generation are a bunch of selfish pigs! A bunch of selfish pigs that don't really care about you - or anybody - but themselves. All they care about is making money and watching garbage TV. They don't care what happens to you. That's what I say. That's why they divorce - because they don't care about you. That's why they don't bring you to church - because they don't care about you!

There's a really big rock song that a lot of kids are listening to in your high school or college. I don't endorse the song. It has some dirty words in it. But, as I read the words from a transcript, it filled me with sorrow, because I know that this is exactly the way many young people feel today. The song said,

I walk alone. I walk alone. I walk alone.
I walk the empty streets on the boulevard of broken dreams.
When the city sleeps
And I'm the only one and I walk alone.
My shadow's the only one that walks beside me.
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating.
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me.
'Till then, I walk alone.
("I Walk Alone" by Green Day).

That's one of the number-one songs kids in your generation are listening to on their CDs and stereos. I do not endorse it. I don't want you to listen to it. But I think that song, ugly though some of it is, expresses perfectly the way so many young people feel today - "I walk alone. My shadow's the only one that walks beside me. And I'm the only one and I walk alone." I'm going to preach a whole sermon on that X-Generation song at 10 o'clock Sunday after next. It will be a stemwinder. Bring a friend, someone you know. Let's pack this church to hear my sermon on "Boulevard of Broken Dreams." Let's do it! Pack this church with young people from college and high school to hear this old man tell you why you walk alone - cut off from everybody, alone, in this godless American city. And I will also tell you what to do to get off of "The Boulevard of Broken Dreams."

You walk alone because most of your parents, my generation, don't give a Hellish thought what happens to you. Tell them I said they left you all alone, in front of a TV, so they could work more hours, make more money, and run off to Las Vegas to gamble and get drunk. Tell them I said they don't give a Hellish thought whether you're all alone at home, or running out in the streets because you can't stand the loneliness any longer. And you tell them there is somebody that cares about you - the people in this church. And if they don't want you, we do! You tell them that. It's the absolute truth! We want you, even if they don't. Why do I say that? Because it is the absolute, swear on a Bible truth. We want you here at our church. End of statement!

"Thou shalt not kill" (Exodus 20:13).

I. First, the high courts don't get it right.

They come out in their long black robes and say, "Those kids don't count. We could care less about them." I say to those courts, in the words of Oliver Cromwell, "You have sat too long here for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say, and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go."

The high courts folded their hands and smiled while they butchered 46 million kids your age. Those same courts turned their backs last week when Terri Schiavo's parents tried to get them to save her life. I say that those judges are no good! Away with them! "In the name of God, go"! Those black-robed old judges don't care any more about you than they do about 46 million of your generation of young people they murdered. They allowed "doctors" to stick needles in your brains, ripped out your arms and legs, and flushed you down the toilet. These are the same kind of black-robed judges, hypocrites, who nailed Christ to the Cross. And they will nail you to a cross too, if they get you in their hands! These "activist" judges are a cancer in America. Remember that. When you get the power in a few years - throw the whole filthy pack of them out! Tell them, in the words of that Christian patriot Cromwell, "You have sat too long here for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say, and let us have done with you. You have sat here too long to do any good. In the name of God, go." Throw them out when you get the chance, young Americans. These activist judges are fiends from Hell. Throw them in the street as soon as you get the chance in the voting booth! Throw them out! Throw them out! Throw them out! They don't care any more about you than your derelict parents do. "For God's sake, go!" We have had enough of your lies and your murders. Get out of our courts and stay out! You tell them the Bible says,

"Thou shalt not kill" (Exodus 20:13).

And you throw them out - and clean out the courts like Jimmy Stewart cleaned out Washington in that old film, "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington." Young people, kick the bums out! And do it as soon as you get the chance. In the name of God, throw these greasy hypocrite judges into the ash heap of history. That's exactly where they belong. They belong in Hell. That's what they deserve.

"Thou shalt not kill" (Exodus 20:13).

The high courts don't get it right.

II. Second, the Republicans don't get it right, and neither do the Democrats.

They can push through laws to have huge oil pipelines drilled in our national park in Alaska - and destroy the environment of that pristine, God-blest place. Why, it only took them a couple of weeks to act on that. But those same Republicans can't seem to understand the words of God's sixth commandment,

"Thou shalt not kill" (Exodus 20:13).

They can't understand it for one simple reason - they don't want to understand it!

See, the Republicans don't find it hard at all to send thousands of you kids to die in Iraq. That was easy for them to do. Did it in a few days. Rammed it through. Maybe they were right. They probably were. I support our troops. But somehow, after thirty-five dismal years they can't seem to find a way to do the slightest thing to stop the killing of 46 million kids like you from abortion. I think Iraq is important - but I think you - our American young people - are even more important! I have been voting Republican for forty-one years in the hope they would do something, anything, to stop the killing. I voted for Goldwater - to finish the war in Vietnam quickly. I voted for Nixon for the same reason. I voted for Reagan to end abortion. They call me a "fanatic." I say it is them who are the true fanatics. In their blue suits and red ties, these do-nothing-to-end-abortion "country club" Republicans look like a bunch of fat penguins. They are the fanatics. They are fanatically in favor of killing kids - whether by abortion or on the battlefield in Iraq. What is the motive for their fanaticism? Simple - they want more oil! Tell somebody I said that's what motivates many Republicans - big oil and big money. They say a word or two to keep the pro-life vote - but what do they do? Nothing! Zero! Put it on the Internet. Let everyone know that there's at least one little preacher like me who sees through their double talk, political "spins" and spineless "country club" Republican posturing. They don't want to help you kids. Even Arnold is cutting funding for your colleges. Those Republicans do not care about you kids and your futures. All they care about is money and oil. And they will kill you to get it. And I don't think the Democrats are any better. Do you? In fact, I think most Democrats are even worse than the do-nothing "country club" Republicans!

"Thou shalt not kill" (Exodus 20:13).

They could care less about what God says! Tell them I said that!

"Thou shalt not kill" (Exodus 20:13).

The high courts don't get it right. The Republicans and Democrats don't get it right.

III. Third, the public schools and colleges don't get it right.

Dr. John R. Rice wrote a booklet titled, "Abortion: The Murder of the Helpless Unborn." Dr. Rice was right - abortion is the murder of helpless children. But your secular high school or college professor doesn't see it that way. He tells you that there are no moral absolutes - no black and white values - just "shades of gray." They shove this garbage down your throat every day at school. I say these secular teachers are not good Americans. Put that on the Internet. Tell somebody I said that. College professors who tell you it's OK to kill Terri Schiavo and murder 46 million babies by abortion are not good Americans - not good people! Tell them I said that!

And don't let them confuse the issue by saying, "What about war?" Just wars are fought by brave soldiers to protect freedom against tyrants. Abortion is done to slaughter innocent babies. A man who can't tell the difference has no business teaching in any high school or college classroom!

"Thou shalt not kill" (Exodus 20:13).

That's pretty simple. No "shades of gray." It's black and white.

"Thou shalt not kill" (Exodus 20:13).

The high courts don't get it right. The Republicans and Democrats don't get it right. The secular high school and college professors don't get it right.

IV. Fourth, the majority of preachers don't get it right.

I have never been a fan of Jesse Jackson. It usually seemed to me that he was on the wrong side. But last week I think he finally got something right. Jesse Jackson went down to Florida, and stood outside of Terri Schiavo's hospice, and said,

This is one of the profound moral and ethical issues of our time. We should not stand by and let her die while we have the means for her to live…She is being starved to death…It is immoral and unnecessary… I feel so passionate about this injustice being done, how unnecessary it is to deny her…water, not even ice to be used for her parched lips. This is a moral issue and it transcends politics… (Miami Herald, Los Angeles Times, March 30, 2005).

Jesse Jackson got it right! I challenge any preacher in America to prove that statement by Jesse Jackson wrong. Dr. D. James Kennedy said Jesse Jackson was right, and I agree with Dr. Kennedy.

"Thou shalt not kill" (Exodus 20:13).

While I have never been a fan of Jesse Jackson, I applaud his outspoken stand for Terri Schiavo's right to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," granted in the Declaration of Independence. I only wish that Billy Graham, or his son, Franklin Graham, had gone down to Terri's hospice and had taken the same courageous stand that Jesse Jackson did. Where were Billy and Franklin Graham when we needed them?

As I said, I have never been a fan of Jesse Jackson. However, his statements about Terri were absolutely true. For the first time in my life, I found myself applauding Jesse Jackson for having the courage to make that public statement on behalf of Terri Schiavo.

On the other hand, Billy and Franklin Graham say that they are preachers, not politicians. They say that their calling as preachers excuses them from obeying the command of Jesus Christ to give "a cup of water" to those who are thirsty (Matthew 10:42; Mark 9:41). That seems like twisted logic to me. It seems to me that preachers of the Gospel should lead the way in protecting human life. Preachers have the same responsibility to obey Jesus as anybody else.

I say that Billy and Franklin Graham are, in fact, acting like weak "country club" politicians when they hide from the greatest moral issue of our day. Franklin Graham is the president of Samaritan's Purse, an organization that sends relief to starving people in the Third World. Why couldn't he at least have said a few words on behalf of a woman who was starving to death right here in America? It is extremely discouraging that it took Jesse Jackson to do what Billy and Franklin Graham were afraid to do. The American people should be asking, "Where were Billy and Franklin Graham when we needed them?" And why have they been silent for decades while forty-six million kids like you were slaughtered in the American Holocaust? It seems to me that preachers of the Gospel should lead the way on the most important moral issue of our time.

Dr. John R. Rice spoke out strongly against abortion. He died twenty-five years ago. If Dr. Rice were alive today, I believe that he would agree with every word Jesse Jackson said in his statement about the murder of Terri Schiavo. And I believe by now, twenty-five years further into the Abortion Holocaust, with the court-ordered murder of Terri Schiavo, that Dr. Rice would say that it is time for every God-called Gospel preacher in America to lead the way! Stop this crime against humanity - and do it now!

"Thou shalt not kill" (Exodus 20:13).

If nobody else gets that right - it's time for Bible-believing preachers to get it right!

A friend of mine said, "When Bill Clinton sent little Elian Gonzalez back to Cuba at the point of a gun, I was worried. But now the courts have starved a woman to death. Now nothing can stop them. Now they can do anything." It seems to me my friend was right.

You young people have been born and raised in an America that has gone wrong. It looks to me like we are becoming a court-ruled police state. I don't think we have much time left to speak out and act.

What is my advice to young people like you? Drop out! Drop out of this mindless, drug addicted, sex-crazed, murderous culture. Drop out of the world and get into this church! Come here every time the door is open. Drop out of the world and get into this church!

Please stand with me and turn to II Corinthians 6:17-18. Please read those two verses aloud.

"Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty"
      (II Corinthians 6:17-18).

You may be seated.

"Come out from among them." Come out from the twisted American pop "world," and come in to the warmth and fellowship of this local church. Why be lonely? Come home - to church! Come out - and come in!

And then come to Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved"
      (Acts 16:31).

Throw yourself on the mercy of Christ. He will wash away your sins with His Blood. He will save you from this godless American culture. And then be sure to come back to church tonight - and next Sunday. Amen.

Please stand and turn to hymn number seven on your song sheet.  Sing it good and strong!

Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling, Calling for you and for me;

See, on the portals He's waiting and watching, Watching for you and for me.

Come home, come home, Ye who are weary, come home;

Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling, Calling, O sinner, come home!

Oh, for the wonderful love He has promised, Promised for you and for me!

Though we have sinned, He has mercy and pardon, Pardon for you and for me.

Come home, come home, Ye who are weary, come home;

Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling, Calling, O sinner, come home!
