WHAT CHRIST CAN DOby Mr. Noah Song A sermon preached at the Baptist Tabernacle of Los Angeles |
Please turn with me to Revelation 1:5. That is found on page 1331 in the Scofield Study Bible. Revelation 1:5. If the person next to you does not have a Bible, please share yours with them, because faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. Revelation, chapter 1, verse 5, page 1331 in the Scofield Study Bible.
“Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood” (Revelation 1:5).
You may be seated.
This verse tells us of what Jesus promised He would do to all that He preached to, and to all He spoke to. The power of His promise, and the power of His Blood He shed on the Cross, and the power His Blood has to wash away your sin, stays true to this day, and will always stay true for eternity. Jesus is alive!
During my trip to China and Indonesia, I have seen with these two eyes the power of the resurrection of Christ! During my time in Indonesia, I was humbled and encouraged to meet with our brother in Christ and the church he is pastoring. The evidence and witness of what Christ has done for him and the members of his church was undeniable. The power of Jesus’ Blood has reached out to Muslim lands. The power of Jesus’ resurrection is touching the hearts of those who hate Jesus! Meeting those dear brothers and sisters in Christ in Indonesia was truly a blessing. Knowing that at any moment a bomb may explode in the church. Knowing that at any moment there could be an uprising of radical Muslims who will want to cause trouble, who will want to do something bad to the church, but still they gather to worship God and celebrate the power of the resurrection of Jesus, even in a place where they may die because of being a Christian was truly moving to my soul and my heart. No matter what may happen, they choose to go to church because they have encountered the living Christ. The very same Christ who was crucified on the Cross and rose from the dead to give eternal life!
But you may ask, “Why would they take such risks just to go to church?” It’s because they have experienced the soul-cleansing power of Jesus’ Blood, and the power of His resurrection! Their sins have been washed clean from God’s books in Heaven by the Blood of Jesus! The crucified Jesus! The risen Jesus! I love the song that Mr. Griffith sang a moment ago,
It is no secret what [Christ] can do,
What He’s done for others, He’ll do for you.
With arms wide open, He’ll pardon you.
It is no secret what [Christ] can do.
(“It Is No Secret” by Stuart Hamblen, 1908-1989).
What Jesus has done for those in Muslim countries, He can do for you! The forgiveness of sins by the Blood of Jesus transforms the most stubborn heart, the most hateful heart, the most sinful heart, into a new and joyful heart. The love Jesus has for you transcends time. Jesus is ready to save you! He has risen from the dead! Believe on Him! The Bible says, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:31).
The same experience happened with me in China. Thanks to God, we were able to reach a brother who helped contact a sister in China. She helped us in being able to speak in a church in China. This church happened to be a Three Self church. But there is a little band of Christians who gave us the privilege of speaking in one of their fellowship meetings that they have apart from the Three Self church. The room in which we spoke had no cameras, but everywhere else in the building, inside and out there were cameras. Cameras watching us everywhere! We met a Chinese man there who tried to commit suicide multiple times. He encountered demons and fought with them! But thanks be unto God, he trusted Christ and has a joyful and satisfied life in serving Jesus! He now takes care of the church building and does janitorial ministry, as well as ministering to those who come to the church! His family has become blessed by seeing his life changed, and seeing the power of Jesus’ Blood and resurrection in this man’s life.
It is no secret what [Christ] can do,
What He’s done for others, He’ll do for you.
With arms wide open, He’ll pardon you.
It is no secret what [Christ] can do.
Jesus transformed that Chinese man’s life forever! His life has meaning! His life is purposeful! Even though he might be arrested and sent to jail, he serves faithfully for Jesus in that church. His life is a living testimony of Jesus! He has encountered the risen Christ! What Jesus did for that man, He can do for you! The Bible says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). There is no doubt in my mind that the man I met in China experienced a life of sin. But that did not help him at all! It only made him more lonely and depressed, so lonely and depressed that he tried to commit suicide! Not just once but many times! That’s what sin does to a soul. But as an old hymn puts it, “Then Jesus came, and turned his night to day.” That man was invited to attend the services at that church and he became a Christian! Thank God!
During our stay in China, we set out on an adventure. An adventure to look for the grave marker of a very famous Chinese missionary. His name is John Sung. We did not know for sure if he was moved to another city or if he was still at the same place he was buried. As we were walking around the city, my father happened to speak to a man who just happened to know who John Sung was and even where he was buried! Out of the millions of people in China, God led us to that man! What a miracle! We had to climb through someone’s backyard to see it, but we were able to see what was written on the grave marker. What a wonderful testimony of Jesus! It was such a blessing to see John Sung’s grave marker and to know that he encountered the crucified, risen and living Jesus! There was a red cross on top of his grave marker. John Sung was the first Chinese to earn a Ph.D. in chemistry. He was really smart. He earned many high awards for his studies. But he threw it all away to become an evangelist for Jesus! The power of the crucified and risen Christ transformed this man forever! Despite all the awards and accolades, John Sung found no peace in those. He saw his need for forgiveness of sin; he saw his need for Jesus’ Blood. He saw his need for the risen and living Christ! I know that John Sung can sing that song this morning up in Heaven.
It is no secret what [Christ] can do,
What He’s done for others, He’ll do for you.
With arms wide open, He’ll pardon you.
It is no secret what [Christ] can do.
Those were the main highlights of my trip to Indonesia and China. I saw the power of God change the lives of those I met, to turn them to Jesus from sin. If you have not trusted Jesus, it is my hope and prayer that you will soon. Jesus loves you. He died on the Cross to pay for your sins. He rose from the dead the third day and ascended up into Heaven. His Blood can wash away your sins so that God won’t see them. Trust Christ, and He will give you a new life full of joy. Now listen to the testimony of one young person in our church.
I came to the services every night, though I didn't expect anything from the services. I had been very depressed because I had a false conversion earlier that year. I came because I remembered in one of Dr. Hymers' sermons he said that any man looking forward to conversion should come to all of these meetings, for if they don't, they might miss the revival when it comes. I was invited for counseling. On Thursday night, August 28, Dr. Hymers asked me to kneel down and come to Jesus. I told him I couldn't. I told him I didn’t have enough conviction for my sins and I didn't feel bad enough about myself to accept Jesus. Dr. Hymers asked me, “How do you know if you don't have conviction over your sins, maybe you are already under conviction?” I told him that I felt terrible because I couldn’t feel sorry enough for my sins. Dr. Hymers told me that “feeling” terrible was all the conviction I needed. Dr. Hymers said I was ready to come to Jesus and be saved; all I had to do was to trust Him. I hesitated for I was still thinking I didn't have any feeling yet and I wouldn't have any huge emotional display after I knelt down.
Dr. Hymers then asked me suddenly, “Which one is more important: that you think you are saved or God thinks you are saved?” I answered, “What God thinks.” The question struck me, and triggered a series of thinking in my mind rapidly. What a fool I was. I started to realize what's really missing in my life – it was the Saviour. I was trying so hard, for the past year, in attempting to get myself saved by my own feeling. I tried, countless times, but my conscience kept telling me that I was not righteous enough to go to Heaven, for the sins I have committed in the past and the sinful thoughts I was having in my mind now troubled me. The sins I have committed are written in God’s record, which keeps those who have sinned out of Heaven. Then Dr. Cagan asked me, “Will you go to Heaven or Hell if you die today?” My conscience told me I would go to Hell. I was completely blinded but now I started to realize how important Jesus is. Because He is sinless, the remission of sin by shedding of His Blood is acceptable by God. Only Jesus can do it because He's the only one who can bear sin and who is without sin. Now I suddenly saw the light. There was still hope to my salvation. It was in Jesus. It has always been Jesus. “I won’t have to rely on my feelings any more,” I told myself. I can rely on Him and Him alone. It is much easier and simpler to rely on just Jesus than on my own feelings. He took away the burden of my conscience. He has done the hard work so I don’t have to. It is written that Jesus came to the world to save sinners. Because He has pardoned me as a sinner, I realize how much He loves me. From that moment, I wanted to come to Jesus so much. Dr. Hymers asked me to come to Jesus without any feeling, just come the way I am. I couldn't come to Jesus that night because the world was still dragging me. I told Dr. Hymers, “I have some unfinished work.” Dr. Hymers told me to finish it and come to Saturday night's service. I came. That night, Dr. Cagan told me to come to Jesus. I still struggled with my feeling and I couldn't. Dr. Cagan asked me to come to Jesus four times in a row that night, but I still wouldn't. The next day, Sunday, August 31, Dr. Cagan asked me again, “Will you come to Jesus now?” And I answered, “Yes.” I knelt down and finally came to Jesus without any feeling. The moment I gave up my feelings and put all my trust in Jesus, I believed on Him. Jesus now has truly set my conscience free. I find peace and joy in my heart by relying on Him. Now I truly see it is Him who saved me from the wrath of God, so I can be counted as righteous in the sight of God and enter into the kingdom of Heaven. I, who was so proud about myself, have died. I now trust on Jesus fully with all my heart.
Do you feel your need for Jesus? Do you want the Blood He shed on the Cross to cleanse you from sin? Jesus is ready to forgive you and save you. Why wait any longer? Come to Jesus now and He will wash away your sin with the Blood He shed on the Cross!
